Now, for some fun... I just had a kid's "sprouter kit" sent to you so you and your Mommy can start growing sprouts (alfalfa sprouts are my favorite). It's really fun because they grow so fast you can almost watch them grow... and they taste good and are good for you.
Here's a video that teaches you how to grow sprouts... your "kit" will have everything you need:

I haven't posted a note for you in sometime, Ethan

I haven't posted a note for you in sometime, Ethan. I was SOOOO glad to hear that you liked the fire truck that I sent to you. Does it make a lot of noise? Thank your Mommy for the card on your behalf. I hope you have a TON of fun playing with it. You might even want to become a fireman when you grow up?
Did you ever get your hummingbird feeder up? I put up two yesterday right outside my office window. Two ruby-throated hummers fed (and fought) there all day long. This is a blurry shot of one of them... the screen in the window makes the picture kind of blurry. How can anyone consider a hummingbird and not believe there's a God?Here's a fun video of people snapping their fingers, slapping their legs and jumping up and down to sound like a rain storm. Close your eyes and see if it doesn't sound like rain on a roof to you?:

Let me hear from you little man.
I love you,
Granddaddy

Here are a couple more pictures of my first ship

Ethan, this is a picture of my first destroyer, the U.S.S. Nicholas (DD-449), operating with the world's first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVN-65). The aircraft carrier is over 1,000' long and can go over 50 miles per hour at full speed... that's pretty fast when you have a flight deck that is over 4 acres big.
This is a picture of the "Nick" tied up outboard another ship in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. I was part of the crew that decommissioned her in January of 1970. From there I joined the U.S.S. Strong (DD-758) in the Mediterranean Sea. Before we went to Vietnam in June of 1969, we were in port when they filmed the movie about the bombing of Pearl Harbor (Tora, Tora, Tora)... the Nicholas is in several of the shots during the attack.
This is a scale model of the Nicholas that someone built:

Here's a couple of cute kids

Ethan, Taylor Ware is a cute little girl who lives in Franklin, Tennessee which is about 75 miles west of where I live. She started singing when she was four years old and taught herself to yodel from a book/tape when she was seven. I think she's really great. She's a Christian and started a ministry performing for senior citizens at nursing homes. Her Mama and Daddy say Taylor can continue to sing and yodel as long as she is happy, has fun and makes good grades. Notice how polite she is when she is talking to the adult judges. In the South that's the way children are taught to interact with adults.

Isn't she GREAT!? She's a real cutie! She even now has her own web site.
Here's a little boy - he's four years old in this video - who plays an accordion and is quite a performer:

I hope you enjoy both of these videos, Ethan... I love you!

Still building and finishing my house in Tennessee

Yesterday between my business phone calls I continued to paint in the house (my partner - and friend of 35 years - and I are selling a piece of tax saving software... your Mommy will find that ironic). Your Daddy might want to use this software. It is designed for self-employed entrepreneurs and I hear that he is starting his own business. Roger Gertz, my partner, developed "April 15th" 23 years ago and it has saved him a ton in taxes... legally... click here to download the software. Click here to learn about the software and for the three instructional videos on how to use it (about 4 minutes each)... it'll only take your Daddy 15 minutes and he'll be an expert... and it will save him thousands in taxes each year. The wall behind the headboard in the bedroom is painted with Behr brand "Orange Spice." Click on this color swatch and you'll be able to see a truer image of the color:I think Orange Spice is a really rich color and with the other three walls being painted "Vanilla Delight" there is a nice warm, cozy feel to the room. All the trim (baseboards and trim around the doors) will be bright white enamel). Vanilla Delight:I can't remember the exact details but this headboard was bought by your great-great-great-great grand parents after the War of Northern Aggression... some who aren't historians erroneously still call it a "civil war" which it wasn't (these Kentucky relatives are on my Mama's side). They started building their new homestead (to replace their log cabin) on the family farm in the 1850s but it was not finished until after the "recent unpleasantness," another Southern name for the war (the land was acquired in a 10,000 acre land grant in 1790... it's now Warren County, Bowling Green, Kentucky... Daniel Boone used to come by and visit). The headboard and the marble-top Victorian chest to the right of the bed were purchased for their newly completed home in about 1870 in Louisville, Kentucky. The last piece of the family farm sadly was sold about 15 years ago... until that sale the abstract only contained one document... the original 1790 land grant (the land was in our family for over 200 years before the city slicker heirs sold it off for the money). There is a matching foot board too but I've got to figure out how to attach it to the foot of the bed (it has curved corners plus it's only a full-size frame to go with a king-size mattress). I'll finish painting in the bedroom tomorrow and move back into the GREEN master bath to finish it up. "The house that your Granddaddy built" is beginning to REALLY feel like home.
Aaron, my helper, was here yesterday. He is almost finished painting the stucco on the south side of the house and has continued to work on our rain water collection system by installing gutter guards. Tomorrow or the next day he and I will set the two 1,600 gallon tanks at the west end of the house.I hope you are enjoying the present I sent... let me know how you like it!
I love you, Ethan,
Granddaddy
